Red light therapy harnesses the power of red and near-infrared light to influence cellular function. Most available research on it has been published in the last 15 years, but it has a longer history of use, in some ways as old as time.
Red light therapy is based on a large body of scientific findings demonstrating that 600-1000 nanometer light can have effects in the irradiated tissues via multiple mechanisms. More than five thousand research articles on red light therapy have been published, and the volume of new research is increasing every year.
Want to learn more? Continue on to a special article written for CytoLED.com by Vladimir Heiskanen, who is well known in the red light therapy research community for compiling a regularly updated database of all the available research on the topic.

Wavelengths
660nm & 850nm
Each CytoLED panel emits both 660nm and 850nm wavelengths, two of the most researched wavelengths. 660nm is visible to the human eye, and looks red. 850nm is not visible. Of the two, 850nm penetrates deeper. Our lights contain 660nm/850nm in a 1.3/1 ratio, measured by irradiance.
pick your wavelength
Many of our devices (all except the Zero) allow you to select Red only, NIR only, or to have both at the same time.
RED
Red light is most suited for treating more superficial tissues, such as the skin, as it penetrates less deeply.
660 nanometers
NEAR-INFRARED
Near-infrared light is suited for treating deeper tissues, such as muscles, as it penetrates more deeply.

About CytoLED
Our Mission
At CytoLED we're committed to accurate scientific information on red light therapy, even when it's not pretty. We commit to providing accurate and reliable measurements on our devices, and delivering quality writeups on the use of red light therapy for various indications. Unfortunately, misleading measurements with inaccurate equipment, outright lies about power consumption, irradiance or total light output have been the norm rather than the exception, we hope to break that trend.
